Strong Girls

September 19, 2016

Strong Girls - Mother and DaughterStrong Girls mission is to build a community of empowered young girls and women who know their worth. Strong Girls was created on the belief that we would foster a safe and supportive community where girls can be their best selves, stronger and more confident. We incorporate yoga, creative arts and fun to encourage open dialogue and fun while working on a variety of topics.

Rachel Greb and Kim Turner created Strong Girls almost two years ago. We are passionate about creating a community of Strong Girls. We offer camps, community service, weekly groups, and more. We also offer workshops for mothers/daughters and for parents. In order to foster the mission of Strong Girls, it is imperative that the tips and techniques we teach are also utilized in the home.

Tips for raising a Strong Girl:

  1. Create a safe space for dialogue:

Create a mother/daughter journal. Pick a location to keep the journal. Girls are encouraged to ask questions and speak freely. Girls can ask for in person answers or for answers to be written in the journal. The content of the journal is meant to be kept private and can only be discussed within the parameters that are created between you and your Strong Girl.

2. Focus on Progress not Perfection:

Praise your Strong Girl for her small successes and remind her that it is in the mistakes where most learning takes place

  1. Positive self‐talk:

Your Strong Girls look to you as role models, even if does not always feel that way during the teen years. Be kind in the way you talk about your body. Focus on what your body can do not what you wish you could change.

  1. Strong Girls need responsibilities.
  1. Find time to practice yoga or have craft time:

It is a great bonding time and Strong Girls are apt to talk more and open up when you are involved in a fun activity.

There are so many more tips and techniques to help foster development and raise a Strong Girl. It is the hope of Strong Girls to offer more outside of our hometown and to also offer more scholarships. We will soon be selling shirts and Strong Girls coffee to help us raise money for scholarships and more free events, http://www.wearestronggirls.com/. If you would like to bring Strong Girls to your community, please contact us via our website. We end each group, event, etc. with our chant…”We are Strong Girls!!” It is amazing to hear the room vibrate as the girls yell together and realize just how strong they each are and even stronger as a community.
