Do you have questions about our Prepare for Birth With Yoga course and want to know it if is a good fit for you? Read on for some common questions we get about this course. Still have questions? Remember that we always love to chat with you! Feel free to send us a message or email!
How does this course differ from other childbirth classes?
Our Little Lotus Prepare For Birth With Yoga class offers many of the great things that “traditional” childbirth classes incorporate (i.e.: stages of labour, options during birth, etc.) but what you will also learn with Little Lotus are HANDS ON techniques that you can incorporate during pregnancy, labour and delivery. We want you to feel confident when you give birth. We also want your birth partner to feel confident during labour and delivery. You will have lots of opportunity to try out different movements, postures, touch and other techniques BEFORE the BIG DAY. We see it kind of as prepping for a big competition. You aren’t just going to show up and be ready to win, right? You would of practice before hand and got ready mentally, emotionally and physically. This is exactly what we offer in our Prepare For Birth course.
Why is one session with birth partners and the other is not?
We wanted to create an opportunity for women to feel safe and secure to talk about their hopes, dreams, fears and more. There is a lot of power when a group of women come together in close circle. Even just having their energy in the same space can be quite freeing and beautiful for many.
Our first session will allow you an opportunity to participate in a prenatal yoga class that is specific to aches and pains you may be discovering throughout your pregnancy. It will also incorporate techniques that will help you mentally, physically and emotionally prepare for the birth of your baby.
The second session is for the birthing mother and her birth partner. This session will include everything you need to know from when that first sensation or contraction begins until you bring baby home! By allowing birth partners to be actively involved early on in your pregnancy they are able to build their comfort and confidence level.
Who can I bring as my “birth partner”?
You can bring person who you feel comfortable with and are thinking you would like to have present at your birth! Some women bring partners, mothers, best friends, their doula, etc. It is a great opportunity to connect and practice with those who will be present at your birth with you!
How far along in my pregnancy should I be to take this course?
You can participate at anytime! Most women who participate are 20+ weeks. We only offer this class every few months so you don’t want to miss it!
What will I learn in this course that is not always covered in other childbirth classes?
You are actually going to be moving! You will learn about possible birthing positions so you can try them out before hand and become familiar with them so it doesn’t feel like they are thrown at you last minute as an option to try in labour! You will try various positions, touch and massage with your partner so you can see what you like, what feels good for your body and it gives your mind and body an opportunity to become familiar with the positions again and specific touch. It also gives your birth partner an opportunity to try out these positions with you and various comfort measures. They will remember practicing them in your class and what you liked, didn’t like and what feels most comfortable for you!
What do I need to bring with me?
Please dress comfortably in clothes that you can freely move in (mother and birth partner!) Please bring a yoga mat and a pillow with you as well. You may also wish to bring something to drink and stay nourished with. We know how much those growing babes like to be fed!
