So you are pregnant and are looking for safe alternatives to continue practicing yoga; or maybe you have not practiced before but are looking for a class that will allow you to move your body, reduce or eliminate discomfort and bond with your unborn child.
Sometimes the thought of walking into a new class not knowing what to expect can be intimidating; or perhaps you find new environments exciting, but you aren’t certain that our Little Lotus Prenatal Yoga classes are best for you.
The following is a list of answers to common questions that we receive, as well as information we want you, the mama-to-be, to know before attending class.
- I have never done yoga before. Can I start now?Absolutely! No experience is needed to participate in our Little Lotus Prenatal Yoga classes. The yoga practice will meet YOUR level of experience….wherever that may be.
- I have a steady yoga practice and lead an active lifestyle. Can I maintain this steady practice throughout my pregnancy? As long as you are feeling well and your doctor/midwife approves, then you are able to continue to practice in a way that feels best for you and your baby. Our instructors will guide you through some modifications and options as your baby belly grows and certain postures may become more challenging.
- What do I need to bring with me?Please bring a yoga mat and water to class with you. We also suggest that you dress in layers so you are able to accommodate any changes in your body temperature. Some students like to bring a small pillow or cushion with them to class to sit on or use in various postures.
- Is the class hard? Do I have to have a lot of energy?Students are offered options continually throughout the class. Our Little Lotus Yoga instructors create a welcoming space and environment and we encourage mamas-to-be to attend simply to be in the space, even when they may not feel up to fully participating. We teach our students to nurture and listen to their bodies, taking breaks when the body would like breaks. The class will incorporate both energizing postures that build strength and stamina and relaxation postures that will relieve common discomforts (spine, hips, legs).
- When can I start to participate?Women of all stages of pregnancy are welcome to attend our classes. You will be surrounded by the warm energy of mamas-to-be, from the newly pregnant all the way to the possibly overdue! We encourage mamas-to-be to start attending classes whenever they feel ready.
- How can I register?Visit our schedules page for class locations, days and times! Once you know what class you are interested in follow the registration link to get started!
