Prenatal Yoga Poses | Uttanasana | Forward Fold

This weeks Prenatal Pose is a nice Forward Fold. Feel the release through the back of your body as you lengthen your hamstrings and release your spine. For more of a spinal release let your knees bend even more while in the posture. Play with the posture and see where your body wants to be each day.

 

Asana (Sanskrit)

Uttanasana

Posture (English)

Forward Fold

Description / Explanation

  • From Tadasana, lengthen the spine and begin to fold forward from the hips.
  • Leading with the heart
  • Let the neck and head sink towards the floor, relaxing.

Benefits

  • Lengthens hamstrings
  • Tones liver, spleen and kidneys
  • Stretches spine

Contraindications

  • Glaucoma (head below the heart)

Notes

Ensure to widen the stance as the belly grows.
Option to bend the knees and place the elbows onto the thighs helping support the body weight.
