This weeks Prenatal Pose is a great add on from last weeks Triangle. If you are feeling strong in Triangle and looking for a little something more let us know how you like Half Moon!

 

Asana (Sanskrit)

Ardha Chandrasana

Posture (English)

Half Moon

Description / Explanation

  • From Trikonasana (triangle) bend the front leg slightly and begin to lift the back leg up and away from the mat
  • Lengthen the front leg and lift and lengthen the back leg

Benefits

  • Reduces anxiety, nervous tension
  • Strengthens spine
  • Strengthens pelvic muscles
  • Reduces nausea

Contraindications

  • Toxemia

Notes

Recommendations from Geeta Iyengar: place the hand on a block. “If you keep your palm on the floor (as a nonpregnant woman might do), your spine will slant downward and the sides of the pelvis will narrow, which is harmful to the fetus”
