Today Little Lotus Yoga Instructor Sylvia shares her experience with pranayama and how it helped her during her pregnancies.
Of course you are breathing…but are you really doing your yogic breathing…? Taken apart, Prana means “energy” and Ayama means so “send out or distribute energy”… how perfect is that if you are sharing your breathe with a little one?
Not only does breathing that is consciously regulated lead to deep relaxation but it can promote a sense of well-being. From a personal perspective I have found that practicing yoga in the evening, with a focus on pranayama helps with insomnia, calms any anxiety and can even improve emotional stability…maybe directly related to the deeper, calmer sleep you will experience.
I remember practicing my yogic breathing during my last pregnancy and telling my husband that I felt as if I were floating after my practice…I was calm, at peace, less on edge, less reactive and just plain happy! He very wisely rarely commented!
I was bound and determine with both of my pregnancies that my babies would not hear any distress (on my part) when entering this world…it is true that I focused on my doula but along with that, I believe that my deep focused pranayama led to effortless deliveries…
Hmmm…take a deep breath and consider the above!
All the best!
Sylvia
