Yoga is a great way to help you prepare for your labour and can also help you learn specific techniques that many people find helpful during labour as well. Prenatal Yoga is also a safe way to exercise during pregnancy and supported by many organizations including ACOG and SOGC
So HOW CAN Prenatal Yoga prepare you for your labour?
Vocal Toning
Throughout our prenatal class series we will teach you the importance of vocal toning. What it is, how to do it effectively and give you lots of time to practice throughout the series. You will understand why vocal toning is important, how to practice it, how it works and how it can be effective to use during your labour.
Affirmations
Affirmations are simple statements that are positive in nature and affirm an action or outcome. Using affirmations are a great way to affirm in our mind and body the outcomes we desire and how we wish to feel. Ex: My body will birth my baby exactly how my baby is meant to be birthed.
Pelvic Floor
Learn how to activate and relax your pelvic floor in a way that is comfortable and effective. As you labour and throughout your delivery you will need to have a strong connection with this area of your body and feel capable and confident.
Build Strength & Endurance
You might have heard that giving birth can be like running a marathon. So…..have you ever ran a marathon without any training? Probably not. So why approach your birth without preparing as well? You will experience different yoga postures and techniques that will welcome opportunities for you to build strength and endurance.
Mindfulness & Meditations
Learn mindfulness and meditation techniques that will not only be helpful during pregnancy but also during labour. Many birthing people find it very helpful to be able to create a safe space in their mind no matter where they are. Finding your “zone” will be easier to find when you have been practicing your zen moments regularly throughout pregnancy.
Create stabilization
Pregnancy hormones can cause joints to become more relaxed which can feel like we are much more flexible but this can also cause injury and overuse of certain muscles and joints. Prenatal yoga helps to stabilize your joints and create opportunities for your muscles to be balanced within your body. This will also help decrease chances of injury during birth and some find it helpful for a more smoother recovery postpartum.
These are just some of the benefits that a yoga practice can bring into your life. You don’t need any yoga experience to get started and to invite these benefits into your life. Our Prenatal Yoga classes are available weekly.
