Light a candle in the middle of the room and have all the children sit in a circle a safe distance away from it. Have the children focus on the light of the candle. Is the flame high or low. Imagine feeling the warmth from the candle. Is the candle flame steady or does it flicker? Invite the children to focus their awareness directly at the candle and to release any other thoughts that may be trying to take their focus away from the candle.
The goal is to begin to have the child focus their attention and energy towards one object (the piece of fruit) They slowly begin to withdraw their attention from elsewhere and concentrate on one object. This is one of the first steps to learning to meditate!
