Every Summer as a child we would make the trip to Toronto for some family time. We had family in Toronto and we would meet up for a weekend of fun, which always included Wonderland! I would spend hours and hours in the kids section and as the years went on that expanded to the roller coasters (hands up if you remember riding The Bat back in the day for the first time!) and the fun level increased when the addition of the Water Park came!
This July we had the opportunity to take our children (ages 4, 7, 9) to Wonderland and I couldn’t wait to see the park again through the eyes of my children. The kids had a day full of fun and are already asking when they can go back! Wonderland is definitely a theme park that you can spend a few days at if you are wanting to get in all the fun.
This theme park is over 300 acres and has over 200 attractions (including 2 kids areas!). There is also a 20 acre water park on site to cool off after a day of fun in the sun.
Brand new this year is the Yukon Striker. If you are a thrill seeker (I wasn’t brave enough to try it out…yet!) you will want to jump on the worlds highest, fastest and longest dive roller coaster. If you’ve ever wondered what it feels like to go 130km/hr on a roller coaster that looks like it’s going to plummet into the ground (well it kind of does….) then this is for you! I will be on the kids coaster cheering you on 😉
We have put together some tips and tricks if you are looking to visit for the first time.
Before you go:
- Purchase your tickets online to beat the lines.
- Choose your parking spot wisely! The parking lot can get really busy so we love parking close to an aisle and with an easy escape through the exit at the end of a long day in the sun.
- Bring a stroller/wagon (or plan to rent one there!) if you have little ones. There is a lot of walking and you will want a place to throw your sunscreen, water bottles, bathing suits and towels.
- Take a peek around the Wonderland site and plan out some of your adventures ahead of time. This will help you maximize the amount you will be able to see and do!
- Put your family safety plan into place before heading to any theme park or crowded place. We shared some of our tips in our CTV Ottawa Morning Live interview HERE.
While There:
- Grab a map once you enter the park and take note of any special shows you want to see.
- There are many great shows, interactions and experiences. Some of our faves? Snoopy’s Dog Days of Summer & Flying Frontenacs Stunt & Dive Show. Also a classic and not to be missed? The Victoria Falls High Divers!
- There are lots of places to grab food and snacks throughout the park. They can also accommodate various dietary needs (gluten free, dairy free, etc.) AND there is a Starbucks right on site! YES…..important for us parents! We grabbed lunch and watched a kids live show while we ate. It was a great way to hydrate, nourish and get out of the sun for a bit while staying entertained.
