Maria is a new Little Lotus instructor and she was nice enough to answer a few questions for us so that you can get to know her better!
Tell us how you fell in love with yoga?
It’s an ongoing story… The meaning of yoga in my life has evolved and continues to do so. I started as a teen, practised on and off throughout the years, and yoga has been a bigger part of my life for the past 10 years. Discovering the wonders of yoga has guided me on my path.
What can someone expect when they join your yoga class?
I aim to create a safe and positive environment, whether it’s a class for children or adults. In my classes, I emphasize presence and connection, playfulness and breath awareness.
What sort of things do you love to do outside of yoga?
I enjoy creating beauty, I make malas and work on my home and garden. I have three wonderful children, and their smiles are my fuel. We goof around, play yoga games, read books, make messy art, and explore nature. I also enjoy doing absolutely nothing! Balance, you know?
Did you find that your yoga practice changed at all after having a child?
Yes absolutely, it changed. My three pregnancies really helped me connect with myself and my body, and now that I’m more in tune with it I feel more grounded. Finding time for a personal yoga practice can be a challenge, so I tend to practice with my youngest (not in school yet). I try to lead by example.
What is 1 thing that people may not know about you?
I actually own a pair of jeans.
