Did you know that Little Lotus offers fertility yoga classes and workshops? Did you know there was such a thing as fertility yoga? If you didn’t (or even if you did), you probably have some questions about fertility yoga. We thought with our upcoming mini fertility workshop at The Nest on December 11th, there would be no better time to answer some of the questions we get asked the most about fertility yoga.
What is fertility yoga?
Fertility yoga is a form of yoga that is designed exclusively for preparing your spirit, body and mind for new life. Fertility yoga focuses on the centers of the body or “chakras” associated with fertility and reproduction. In particular, it uses unique yoga poses that open the pelvis and stimulate the second chakra located just below the naval. This area has long been associated with fertility. Releasing tension in your lower belly and pelvis will help increase the flow of blood and energy to your reproductive organs. Fertility yoga classes will improve blood flow to the reproductive organs, and will also help relax your body and restore your physical and emotional balance. With each pose, you will have an opportunity to create awareness and begin to release physical tension, negative emotions and energetic blocks in your body that can interfere with your fertility.
What are some benefits of taking a fertility yoga class?
- You will reduce your stress and anxiety.
- You will focus on a positive self-image and positive thinking.
- You will have a renewed sense of sexuality and feminine wholeness.
- It will increase intimacy between you and your partner.
- It can help to heal and recreate a mind-body connection.
- You will discover a sense of belonging to a community of women going through the same experience.
- You will create a renewed sense of control by learning simple ways to take charge of your reproductive health.
Do I need to have yoga experience?
No, no yoga experience is required to participate in a fertility yoga class. The poses are very gentle and the flow of the class is very slow.
Do I need to bring anything?
If you have a yoga mat, yoga strap and yoga blocks please bring them to class, we do however have some straps and blocks to lend out for the class. We also suggest bringing water, a blanket or pillow and anything else you feel you may need to be comfortable during the class.
What can I expect when I attend a fertility yoga class?
Expect a safe non-judging space where you are free to talk about your stresses, frustrations and struggles as well as your silver linings. We will begin our class with a meditation then move into some gentle poses that focus on bringing circulation into different sections of your pelvic area (ovaries, uterus, the muscles of your vaginal wall etc.), these poses also sooth and reduce anxiety. The poses are held for longer periods of time to allow for relaxation and some self-reflection. At the end of class there will be the option to have a group discussion on varying topics (time dependent).
Do I need to be receiving fertility treatment to attend classes?
In order to participate in our free classes at the Ottawa Fertility Centre, you must be a patient of the clinic. However, you do not need to be receiving treatment in order to join any of our Little Lotus fertility classes or workshops outside of the Fertility clinic.
