Prenatal Yoga Poses | Tadasana | Standing pose

Tadasana is a standing pose, also known as the Mountain pose. Tadasana is usually the starting position for all the standing poses, but it’s helpful to practice Tadasana as a pose in itself – especially if you are looking to relax and practice your breathing.

Asana (Sanskrit) Tadasana
Posture (English) Mountain
Description/Explanation
  • Stand with feet together or slightly apart
  • As pregnancy progresses you will naturally take a wider stance
  • Engage your quadriceps
  • Lengthen spine
  • Open chest
  • Shoulders back and down
  • Lengthen neck
  • Arms lengthen along your sides and hands turned out
Benefits
  • Improves spinal and core strength
  • Improves posture & body awareness
Notes
  • Widen stance as baby grows
  • Additions in Mountain Pose
  • Gomukhasana (cow face arms)
  • Pashchima Namaskarasana (Prayer Pose behind back)
