Jenn has been practicing yoga for over 15 years. She began with Bikram classes and after being diagnosed with anxiety she used Yin yoga as part of her treatment. Since taking up running as a hobby, she also uses yoga to aid in her recovery process after long runs.
After a long struggle with infertility and after successfully seeking treatment, she finally met her little girl in 2014. During her fertility treatments Jenn used her yoga practice as a way to relieve stress and anxiety. After experiencing how difficult and stressful infertility could be, Jenn got her certification to teach yoga for fertility with the goal of being able to help other women as much as she could on their journey to motherhood by giving them a place that is free of judgement where they can relax and be calm, and to talk with other women who are going through the same experiences.
Please tell us a little bit about yourself and how you started teaching yoga?
I have been a certified personal trainer for three years and started practicing yoga when I was in my early teens. It has helped me cope with anixtey and stress from other health issues including including fertility. While talking with Amanda during a prenatal yoga teacher training course she informed me about a fertility yoga teacher certification course and I was immediately interested this summer I took and passed the course and I look forward to teaching my yoga for fertility course this January and pre and postnatal yoga this year as well.
Why do you enjoy teaching pre-natal yoga?
I enjoy it because I am helping mom’s to be to be in a healthier state during the pregnancy and also teaching them things that will benefit them during labour too.
Why do you enjoy teaching Mama and Baby classes?
Mama and Baby classes are so much fun! I love getting to watch the moms interact with their babies and I also enjoy providing a space for moms to come and socialize with each other.
How do you take yoga off the mat within your life and your families?
I use yogic breathing to help calm my toddler when it’s bedtime or when I’m putting her back to sleep when she wakes up at night. I also use self-guided meditation to help myself relax when I have a hard time falling asleep.
