We quite often get asked “What if my child is not ready to be on his own?” and our answer is always: We do whatever is necessary to be sure your child is comfortable while he or she learns to be independent in the class.
- Variety:
We offer a variety of classes for a variety of ages. Some are parent participation classes. Others are independent classes. We know that each child develops at a different rate and families’ goals when their children are participating in our yoga classes are always unique. - Parent and Child Classes:
For children who have not participated in a program on their own yet and who might be intimidated in new environments, we suggest that they register for a Parent and Tot or Parent and Preschool class. These classes will give your child an opportunity to become comfortable with the class, the environment, the teacher as well as provide familiarity with the routine of the yoga class. - Gentle Transition:
Once children are ready they may try an “on their own” class. Even with these classes, some children may wish for their parents to participate with them the first few weeks. We often see parents who actively participate the first 1-2 weeks. By week 3 we suggest the parent sit towards the back of the mat and encourage the child to participate at his or her own pace. Once the child is comfortable doing this then Mom or Dad will sit off to the side in the room and read a book or do another activity while still being in the same space. Often, after this, children are ready for their parents to sit outside the room where Mom or Dad can still be seen if necessary. - Our Goal: Accommodation to YOUR needs:
We want your child to feel comfortable in class and our instructors are more than willing to accommodate your needs and that of your child.
We can’t wait to see you at a Little Lotus class and please don’t ever hesitate to let us know what we need to do in order to ensure that both your child and you get the most out of your class.
