Prenatal Yoga Poses | Utthita Trikonasana | Triangle

This weeks Prenatal Pose is Triangle! As I neared the end of my pregnancies I always enjoyed doing these postures up against the wall so I could rest here for a long time really feeling a nice release through my body without feeling like I needed to continue to balance and have the strength to maintain the posture. For mamas out there who have experienced it we all know how sometimes the body just wants to do a bit less work the last few days before baby arrives!

 

Asana (Sanskrit)

Utthita Trikonasana

Posture (English)

Triangle

Description / Explanation

  • From Tadasana bring legs approx. 3 feet apart and turn one foot to face the front of the room.
  • Foot in the back turns in just slightly
  • Extend arms from shoulders with palms of the hands facing down
  • Inhale, lengthen the spine
  • Exhale, reach forward through your front arm and then let it come down towards the earth
  • Extend your other arm towards the sky
  • Gaze towards your arm that is lifted

Benefits

  • Ease back discomfort
  • Strengthens lower spine

Contraindications

  • High blood pressure
  • If feeling nauseated

Notes

Important! It’s about the LENGTH being maintained in the spine and the hips being OPEN. It is NOT about touching the floor.
